Youth activists Jana Mikhailova and Nikolai Korshunov will be judged for the holding of today’s action of the protest against the benefit’s abolition in Minsk. After the approvement of the bill of the benefit’s abolition by the House of Representatives several dozens of students came to the Building of Government at the Square of Independence.
The employees of police in civil, which were on duty near the Government Building, picked out the placards. Jana Mikhailova and Nikolai Korshunov were arrested when they were going away from the Square.
Originally the holding of the action of the protest against the abolition of the benefits had been planning at the Bangalor Square, however, as it is known, the Minsk Executive Committee of the City forbade it, argued that exactly at that time exactly at this Square the cleaning and repairing works will be hold.
However the Youth didn’t give up and decided still to protest in the Park of Friendship of Peoples. But they were not allowed to gather together. The park was cordoned; people were turning out, along the perimeter policemen and strange people in civil were on duty. The column of nearly 50 people succeeded to reach the crossroads of the Streets Surganova and Jakuba Kolasa, where it was scattered. Several participants of the procession were detained.
On the 16 of May at 19 o’clock Minsk’s youth came with candles to the Abbey of Bernardines and to the St Joseph Cathedral in Minsk. Young people at the second time choose this place for a holding of the monthly action of solidarity because of the capital authorities, which continue destruction of the catholic relic, which also is the unique memorial of our history and culture.
In the common prayer that the St Joseph Cathedral should be returned to believers have taken part nearly 300 people.
Last night the opposition activists hanged out a white-red-white flag on one of the high-rise buildings on Surganova Street. Actions for the protection of the Saint Joseph Catholic Church are continuing. On the 13 of May was hold the action of supporting the Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Youth activists hanged out on the bridge on Nyamiga Street a stretching with slogan: “Let defend Catholic Church on 16 of May at 19 o’clock”. The stretching was hanging on the bridge for about an hour till it was taken away by two policemen on duty.
